State Bank of India (SBI) saw its share price fall by more than 6% on Friday after its financial results for the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2026 did not meet market expectations.
The bank reported a net profit of ₹19,683.75 crore for the January to March 2026 period, marking a 5.5% increase compared to the same quarter in the previous year. Sequentially, the net profit saw a decrease from the ₹21,028.15 crore recorded in the preceding quarter.
Despite the rise in net profit, SBI's net interest income (NII) for Q4FY26 was ₹44,380 crore, a modest 4.1% increase year-on-year. This figure fell below analysts' projections, which had anticipated a 6-10% year-on-year growth in NII.
On a positive note, SBI demonstrated an improvement in its asset quality. The gross non-performing asset (GNPA) ratio decreased to 1.49% in Q4FY26 from 1.57% in Q3FY26. The net non-performing asset (NNPA) ratio remained stable at 0.39% during the same period.
