Summary
- S-Line project slashes travel time between Raleigh and Richmond.
- New rail line connects NC, VA, DC, and the Northeast.
- Grade separation construction ongoing in Wake County.

Construction is progressing in Wake County for the S-Line, a high-performance passenger rail line designed to improve connections between North Carolina and Virginia, as well as urban and rural communities. This project is set to dramatically cut travel times along the East Coast corridor, saving over an hour between Raleigh and Richmond.
Work includes a grade separation project at New Hope Church Road in Raleigh, involving the construction of a bridge over the railroad, which is expected to take approximately three years and cost $22.7 million. Similar bridge construction is commencing this summer at Durant Road, following roadway embankment work that began in 2024.
Upon completion, the S-Line will offer significantly faster and more frequent passenger rail service connecting North Carolina, Virginia, Washington D.C., and the Northeast. NCDOT Secretary Daniel Johnson highlighted the project's transformative impact, emphasizing the collaborative efforts of partners like the Federal Railroad Administration, CSX, Amtrak, and the Virginia Passenger Rail Authority.
