Rail Vikas Nigam (RVNL), in partnership with GPT Infraprojects, has secured a Letter of Award (LOA) from Northern Railway for a major infrastructure project. The contract, valued at Rs 1,201.35 crore, is for the design and construction of a new rail-cum-road bridge spanning the Ganga River.
This new bridge will be situated 50 meters downstream of the existing Malviya Bridge, near Kashi Railway Station in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. The structure will feature four railway tracks on its lower deck and a six-lane road on the upper deck, facilitating significant transport capacity.
The scope of work includes the substructure and superstructure of the bridge, described as 8 X 108.5 meters plus 2 X 103.3 meters Open Web Steel Girders. Additionally, the project encompasses railway and road approaches, along with associated overhead electrical (OHE) and general electrical works. RVNL holds a 60% stake in this significant undertaking.
