Russia Approves 25 Indian Fishery Units
18 Nov
Summary
- Russia is set to approve nearly 25 Indian fishery units.
- This move allows Indian seafood exports to Russia.
- India also seeks to diversify exports to UAE amid US tariffs.

Russia is on track to approve around 25 fishery establishments from India, paving the way for increased seafood exports to the Russian market. This significant development comes shortly after the European Union sanctioned 102 additional Indian marine product units for export.
India is proactively exploring new international avenues for its seafood, engaging in discussions with nations such as the United Arab Emirates. This diversification effort is critical for the Indian seafood industry, particularly for shrimp exports, which have faced considerable challenges due to a substantial 50% tariff recently imposed by the United States.
Shrimp exports were a dominant force in India's seafood trade during 2024-25, accounting for USD 4.88 billion, which represented 66% of the total seafood export value. Meanwhile, negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement with the European Union are progressing, with expectations of reaching an understanding in the coming months.
