Summary
- Revolut will pay for customers to change identity documents.
- Hackers obtained data of hundreds of customers via fake email.
- Italian minister stated Revolut should have verified the request.

Revolut, a prominent European financial technology company, has committed to covering the expenses associated with identity document changes for customers affected by a recent data security incident. The breach occurred when hackers successfully compromised an Italian government agency's email address, which Revolut used to transfer personal data of hundreds of its clients.
Béatrice Cossa-Dumurgier, Revolut's CEO for Western Europe, confirmed the company's stance against paying ransoms to hackers, stating that the focus is on assisting affected customers. Approximately 680 clients were impacted, with 55 located in France. The company emphasized that its own internal systems remained secure throughout the incident.
Italian Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi indicated that the compromised email address originated from the Reggio Calabria police's system but was an unutilized address. He suggested that Revolut failed to exercise minimal due diligence in verifying the legitimacy of the data transfer request, a comment that a Revolut spokesperson declined to address.
