Seaside Nursing Home Reborn as Luxury Hotel
4 Mar
Summary
- Former nursing home granted permission to become hotel.
- New hotel will feature 22 rooms, spa, gym, and cafe.
- Building previously featured in 'Atonement' film.

Permission has been granted for the conversion of the former Mulroy's Seaview Nursing Home in Redcar into a hotel. Initially approved in 2024 for 27 bedrooms, subsequent planning permission reduced this to 22 rooms, with construction already underway. The approved plans include new en-suite bedrooms, spa rooms, a gym, and a cafe.
The building has a notable history, having served as a filming location for the 2013 movie 'Atonement,' where its facade was used to represent a Second World War setting. The nursing home closed its doors in 2023.
Concerns raised by neighbours regarding parking and noise have been addressed by the Redcar and Cleveland Council. Conditions will be added to the planning approval, limiting construction hours, requiring acoustic reports, and restricting deliveries. The applicant has indicated that parking is available within the rear courtyard, at the front of the building, and in nearby paid parking areas.
