RedBird Capital Partners has significantly increased its financial backing for the newly merged Paramount-Warner Bros. Discovery, committing an additional $4 billion. This brings RedBird's total investment in the combined entity to $6 billion, a move that officially closed on Tuesday.
The merger, valued at $110 billion, sees the Ellison family and RedBird Capital Partners taking control of 100% of the company's voting shares. This consolidation aims to leverage iconic franchises and premium content within a transforming media landscape.
Prior to this latest infusion, RedBird had invested $275 million in Skydance in 2019 and later increased its commitment to $2 billion to facilitate the acquisition of National Amusements and the merger with Paramount.
Other significant contributors to the equity investment include Middle Eastern sovereign wealth funds from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi, alongside LionTree. The financing is backed by the Ellison family and RedBird, with Larry Ellison providing a personal guarantee.
