August Sees Record ₹80K Cr Block Trades
31 Aug
Summary
- August block and bulk trades hit ₹80,000 crore.
- This is the highest tally in 14 months.
- Domestic and foreign institutions bought shares.

August saw a substantial increase in large secondary market transactions, reaching at least ₹80,000 crore. This marks the highest volume of block and bulk trades executed in 14 months, surpassing July's ₹48,500 crore. Promoters and private equity investors strategically sold stakes, leveraging the sharp rebound and elevated valuations in mid- and small-cap shares.
Domestic mutual funds, insurance companies, pension funds, and various foreign institutions actively purchased these shares. Notable transactions included Centella Mauritius Holdings' ₹4,451 crore stake sale in Aster DM Healthcare and Resilient Asset Management's ₹2,949 crore sale in One 97 Communications. SoftBank Vision Fund also divested a significant stake in Lenskart Solutions.
This trend indicates attractive exit opportunities for sellers and selective accumulation for buyers, supported by strong SIP flows into equity mutual funds. The period between May and August recorded ₹2.51 lakh crore in block and bulk deals, more than double the amount from January to April. Activity typically increases when valuations are high and liquidity is robust, facilitating profitable exits for large shareholders.
