Rajasthan to Build Inland Port for Cargo Boost

Rajasthan is embarking on a significant infrastructure development with the planned construction of an inland port in Jalore. This port will be linked to the Arabian Sea through a 262-kilometer waterway stretching to Kandla port in Gujarat. The initiative is expected to transform cargo movement, easing pressure on existing road and rail networks.

The project entails substantial investment in dredging, estimated at over Rs 10,000 crore, to ensure navigability of the waterway. This will directly benefit industries in Jalore, Barmer, and surrounding areas by facilitating cost-effective transportation for goods like textiles, stone, and agricultural products. The Rajasthan government is contributing land and will operate the port upon completion.

Furthermore, this inland port will connect the Jawai-Luni-Run of the Kutch river system, designated as National Waterway-48. The development is anticipated to attract new industries, warehouses, and cold storage facilities, significantly enhancing logistics connectivity and driving overall industrial development within the state.
