Agricultural exports from eastern Uttar Pradesh, specifically the Purvanchal region, have experienced substantial growth in recent years. Supported by favorable government policies and the direct involvement of the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), the region is becoming a key hub for agricultural exports. Produce like fruits, vegetables, and flowers are now reaching markets in Gulf countries, Europe, Bangladesh, and Nepal.
Exports of perishable agricultural products via Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport have witnessed record expansion. APEDA's interventions have minimized the role of intermediaries, enabling approximately 20,000 farmers organized into about 50 FPOs to participate directly in export activities and achieve better financial returns. Over the past five years, more than 180 FPOs statewide have been actively promoted as exporters.
Data indicates a dramatic increase in export volumes, rising from 4 metric tonnes in 2020-21 to over 1,000 metric tonnes by 2025-26, with a slight dip in the last year attributed to Middle Eastern trade disruptions. To facilitate this growth, the state government and APEDA have conducted numerous capacity-building programs, seminars, and buyer-seller meets, educating farmers on global demand and export procedures. Major export items include diverse vegetables, fruits, and flowers like marigolds and roses, all cultivated to international quality standards.
