Ludhiana bus stand has achieved a significant milestone, becoming the first fully disability-friendly terminal in Punjab. This transformation ensures enhanced accessibility for visually impaired and mobility-challenged commuters.
Visually impaired passengers benefit from tactile flooring guiding them across the terminal and Braille signages for identifying bus counters, routes, and exits. Mobility-challenged individuals now have access to ramps, handrails, and modernized washrooms, significantly improving their travel experience.
Navraj Batish, general manager of Punjab Roadways, highlighted the initiative's importance, stating it provides much-needed relief and allows differently-abled passengers to travel with dignity. The project, inspired by international standards and Indian law, was executed under deputy commissioner Himanshu Jain and in collaboration with Act Humane NGO.
