The Pune Municipal Corporation's standing committee has greenlit an expenditure of ₹3,722 crore for land acquisition essential for two major infrastructure initiatives. A significant portion, ₹2,634 crore, is allocated for the 35-kilometer high-capacity mass transit route (HCMTR), a six-lane elevated corridor planned across key city areas.
An additional ₹1,088 crore has been approved for the inner ring road project. Approximately 4.98 lakh square meters of land are required for the HCMTR, traversing 15 zones and 34 junctions. For the ring road, 7.23 lakh square meters of land have been identified in the city's peripheral merged areas.
These projects hold high priority under directives from the chief minister. The Pune Municipal Corporation is set to bear the full financial obligation for land acquisition and is actively exploring funding avenues. Formal proposals for land acquisition have been submitted to the district administration following joint discussions.
