13 Mar
Summary
- Ad-free Prime Video Ultra now costs $5 monthly, a $2 increase.
- New tiers offer more simultaneous streams and downloads.
- 4K and Dolby Atmos viewing now require the pricier Ultra subscription.

Amazon is introducing significant changes to its Prime Video subscription service, with new pricing and features rolling out on April 10. The current ad-free option, previously an additional $3 per month on top of the base Prime membership, is being replaced by a new "Prime Video Ultra" tier. This premium subscription will cost $5 per month and offers enhanced features.
Prime Video Ultra will provide users with five simultaneous streams, a notable increase from the current three, and expand download capacity from 25 to 100 titles. This higher-priced tier is also becoming the sole option for accessing content in 4K resolution and utilizing Dolby Atmos audio, features previously available on the standard ad-free tier.
For comparison, competing services like Netflix and Disney+ also offer ad-free 4K streaming at higher price points, $25 and $19 per month respectively. Amazon stated these adjustments are necessary investments to deliver premium features and align with industry standards. The company first introduced ads in January 2024, with ad loads reportedly increasing significantly since then.
