Summary
- Ropeway project stalled for 7 years, now set to become reality
- Ropeway to feature 14 trolleys, each carrying 8 passengers
- Total project cost estimated at Rs 210 crore

In a significant development, the long-delayed ropeway project in Prayagraj is now set to become a reality. The project, which has been gathering dust for the past 7 years, is finally poised to transform the scenic beauty and connectivity of the Sangam area.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has entrusted the National Highway Logistics Management Limited with the responsibility of constructing the ropeway and has granted approval for the latest alignment design. The project will follow a revenue-sharing model, making it a viable public-private partnership with enhanced prospects for execution.
According to the new plan, the main station will be constructed between Lal Sadak and Kali Sadak near the Parade Ground, while the second station will be established near Triveni Pushp in Arail, allowing for optimal coverage of the Sangam region. The ropeway will feature a length of 2,200m and will be supported by three pillars between its start and destination points. It will be equipped with a total of 14 trolleys, with each capable of carrying eight passengers at a time, translating to 112 people enjoying the sweeping, elevated views of the Sangam simultaneously.
The total cost for the project is estimated at Rs 210 crore, and a Rajasthan-based company has been selected as the implementing agency after a detailed survey and evaluation of the alignment and design requirements. The proposal was first presented 7 years ago and revived in subsequent years, especially in preparation for Kumbh 2019 and Maha Kumbh 2025. Despite previous setbacks, approvals granted in 2023-24 have cleared the way for the project launch.
