Italian luxury brand Prada has announced a significant collaboration with India's Sant Rohidas Leather Industries and Charmakar Development Corporation Ltd (LIDCOM) and Dr Babu Jagjivan Ram Leather Industries Development Corporation Ltd (LIDKAR). This partnership will result in a unique, limited-edition footwear collection inspired by the traditional Kolhapuri chappal, slated for a worldwide release in February 2026.
The collection, officially titled "PRADA Made in India x Inspired by Kolhapuri Chappals," will be available in 40 Prada stores and online. Each sandal will be manufactured in India, blending Prada's design ethos with the time-honored crafting methods historically used in Maharashtra and Karnataka, regions renowned for producing Kolhapuri chappals.
This initiative is part of Prada's ongoing "Made In..." program, aiming to support and train local artisans. The collaboration seeks to empower craftspeople, preserve the GI-tagged Kolhapuri chappal heritage, and engage younger generations in this traditional art form, with each pair projected to cost approximately 800 euros.
