Portugal Assures Fuel Supply Amidst Europe's Jet Fuel Fears

Portugal's government is confident that the nation's airports will have sufficient jet fuel for the upcoming holiday travel season, dispelling concerns voiced by European airlines. Infrastructure Minister Miguel Pinto Luz stated on Monday that the government is actively monitoring fuel stock levels at national airports and is in communication with oil companies. He assured that supply would be guaranteed in the coming months.

European airlines had previously warned of potential jet fuel shortages, citing Europe's significant reliance on the Middle East for imports and the implications of the Iran conflict. However, Portugal appears to be more insulated from these geopolitical risks. Its primary jet fuel supplier, Galp Energia, refines crude oil mainly sourced from Brazil at its Sines refinery, ensuring a degree of self-sufficiency.

Galp Energia itself confirmed that anticipated consumption in the coming months is covered by its own production, existing reserves, and import capabilities. The company is also implementing measures to further secure its jet fuel supply chain. These assurances aim to prevent any disruptions during the critical holiday travel period.
