In a significant move for Indian farmers, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to release the 21st installment of the PM-KISAN scheme on November 19, 2025. The central sector scheme, launched in February 2019, provides an annual financial assistance of $6,000 to eligible farmer families across the country.
Since its inception, the PM-KISAN program has disbursed over $3.7 billion to more than 11 crore farmer families through 20 previous installments. The funds have helped farmers purchase agricultural inputs and cater to other essential expenses such as education, medical, and marriage.
A recent study conducted by the International Food and Policy Research Institute in 2019 has strongly suggested that the PM-KISAN scheme has acted as a catalyst in rural economic growth, aided in alleviating credit constraints for farmers, and increased investments in agricultural inputs. This underscores the significant impact the program has had on the lives of Indian farmers.
The government has also undertaken various village-level special saturation campaigns to identify, verify, and include all cultivable land-owning farmers under the PM-KISAN Scheme. Additionally, the agriculture ministry has launched a new initiative to create a comprehensive farmer registry, ensuring last-mile coverage and eliminating cumbersome processes for farmers to access social welfare benefits.
