Summary
- US PlayStation customers may claim part of $7.85 million settlement.
- Lawsuit alleged Sony monopolized digital game sales.
- Settlement funds to be added to PlayStation accounts.

US PlayStation customers may soon receive a payout from an upcoming $7.85 million settlement. The class-action lawsuit, Caccuri v. Sony Interactive Entertainment, alleged that Sony's cessation of selling game-specific vouchers for alternative online storefronts constituted monopolization of the digital games market. This action purportedly inflated prices for consumers purchasing digital games on the PlayStation Store.
Sony denies engaging in any wrongdoing, and the court has not yet determined if the company violated any laws. Despite this, the $7.85 million settlement has received preliminary approval. A final approval hearing is scheduled for October 15, where the settlement sum will be confirmed, attorneys' fees allocated, and a distribution plan established.
Eligible class members, who are automatically included if they meet the criteria, will receive compensation added to their PlayStation Network account wallets. Those with deactivated accounts can apply for cash payments by emailing info@PSNDigitalGamesSettlement.com with qualifying purchase information. The opt-out period to sue Sony separately closed on July 2.
