Commuters in Pimpri-Chinchwad are experiencing significant relief as the new flyover at Rakshak Chowk in Pimple Nilakh has been opened for traffic. Constructed by the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), this development aims to alleviate severe daily congestion on the busy route. The opening is anticipated to substantially decrease travel duration between Sangvi Phata and Ravet Mukai Chowk, establishing a predominantly signal-free corridor and easing pressure on the BRT system.
Political attention was drawn to the project when MLA Shankar Jagtap urged for its immediate safety audit and technical inspection, prompting the civic administration to expedite the necessary procedures. Executive Engineer Sandhya Wagh highlighted the flyover's role in improving connectivity and easing local congestion. While a subway under construction nearby remains ongoing, the PCMC decided to open the flyover to traffic to mitigate public inconvenience, despite some finishing work still pending.
PCMC Joint City Engineer Prerana Shinkar officially denied social media rumors suggesting that the public had independently opened the flyover due to administrative delays. She confirmed that the municipal corporation removed barricades on Thursday night. Shinkar clarified that while some auxiliary work continues, the flyover is now accessible to vehicles. A formal inauguration ceremony is yet to be scheduled and will be decided by senior municipal officials.
