The Procter & Gamble Company (PG), a global consumer goods leader with a market capitalization of $343.4 billion, has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Thorne.
This strategic acquisition is set to significantly expand P&G's Personal Health Care division. Thorne, a science-backed health and wellness company, will bolster P&G's presence in the rapidly growing premium wellness and personalized health sectors.
Despite its dominant position in the household and personal products industry, PG shares have experienced a decline of 14.2% from their 52-week high of $167.25, which was reached on February 27. Over the past three months, PG shares have fallen 1.6%, underperforming the Nasdaq Composite during the same period.
Further indicating a bearish trend, PG has traded below its 200-day moving average since mid-March, although it recently began trading above its 50-day moving average in late May. In contrast, competitor Colgate-Palmolive Company (CL) has shown stronger performance, with its shares rising 8.9% over the past 52 weeks and growing 15% year-to-date.
