Temple Tourist Plan Slashed: Patna's Badi Patan Devi Project Downsized
28 Jan
Summary
- Ambitious Patna temple tourism plan scaled down due to technical constraints.
- Project budget reduced from Rs7.8 crore to approximately Rs1 crore.
- Original plans for gates and extensive pathways were abandoned.

Plans to transform the Badi Patan Devi temple in Patna City into a prominent tourist destination have been significantly curtailed due to insurmountable technical constraints. The Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation Limited (BSTDC), which is executing the project, has had to scale back the development significantly.
Initially, a comprehensive proposal from 2024 included features like two multi-level parking facilities, a nearly 2-km circumambulatory path, and grand entrance gates. However, issues with land availability and the dense urban setting led to the abandonment of this ambitious vision. The project cost, once approved at Rs7.8 crore, has been revised downwards to approximately Rs1 crore.
Currently, the focus is on the construction of a G+2 toilet building, estimated at over Rs70 lakh. A multi-level parking facility for over 150 vehicles is underway on Ashok Rajpath, though a second parking project on Shershah Road was dropped. Separate renovation work on the temple itself is being managed by the local engineering office.
