A significant piece of Palm Beach history, the Addison Mizner-designed Villa Flora, has been sold for $76.73 million. This landmarked mansion, originally built in 1923 for millionaire banker Edward Shearson, is renowned for its Venetian Gothic style and original frescoes. The estate sits on over two acres of oceanfront property.
The buyers are Anthony and Lynda Lomangino, a couple already owning property in Palm Beach and known for their involvement in the waste and recycling industry. They acquired the historic property in an off-market transaction. The sellers, Harvey and Mary Ann Kinzelberg, had purchased the estate for $9.58 million in 2001.
Villa Flora, with its eight bedrooms and 13,281 square feet of living space, showcases intricate architectural details, including Byzantine-influenced doors and Venetian-arched windows. The property also features a cabana building that doubles as a pool house. The exterior frescoes, including the notable "Wall of the Winds," were created by artist Gardner Hale, with designs researched in Venice in 1923.
The estate's exterior walls are protected by landmark status, granted in April 1980, ensuring the preservation of its unique architectural integrity. The sale of Villa Flora marks a notable transaction in Palm Beach's high-end real estate market.
