Ottawa Voters Rank Transit Top Priority for Improvement
11 Oct
Summary
- Majority of Ottawa residents want transit improved.
- O-Train service and bus reliability are top transit concerns.
- Roads and sidewalks are the second most cited service.
Transit is overwhelmingly the top concern for Ottawa residents, according to a new survey. Fifty-five percent of residents ranked transit as the service most in need of improvement. This sentiment was particularly strong in downtown Ottawa, where 63% of respondents expressed this view.
Voters are split on the best approach to improving transportation. Thirty-four percent believe enhancing O-Train service should be the priority, while 33% advocate for more reliable buses. Roads and sidewalks were identified as the second most critical service needing improvement by 27% of respondents.
The focus on transit comes as OC Transpo faced significant disruptions earlier this year, including reduced O-Train service due to a mechanical issue and numerous bus cancellations. The city is also managing increased demand with the return of federal public servants to offices and students to post-secondary institutions.
