OpenAI Hires Roblox Exec as Chief People Officer

OpenAI announced on Tuesday the appointment of Arvind KC as its new chief people officer. KC, who previously served as an executive at Roblox Corp., will lead the company's efforts in hiring, orientation, and employee development. He will report to Chief Strategy Officer Jason Kwon. This move occurs as OpenAI is reportedly seeking significant new funding and is preparing for a potential public listing.

The appointment addresses a recent vacancy in the chief people officer position, following Julia Villagra's departure in August. This change coincided with an intensified competition for top AI talent, with major tech firms actively recruiting experienced engineers and executives. KC brings extensive experience from previous senior roles at Google, Palantir Technologies Inc., and Meta Platforms Inc., complementing his engineering background with strong managerial skills.

In parallel news, Apple Inc. shareholders approved the company's executive pay packages and rejected a proposal for an audit of its China operations during their virtual annual meeting. CEO Tim Cook and outgoing General Counsel Kate Adams led the proceedings. Apple also secured shareholder approval for Ernst & Young LLP as its independent auditing firm. Cook highlighted Apple's commitment to increasing US manufacturing, including Mac mini production in Houston, and expanding advanced AI server manufacturing in the same city, which is expected to create thousands of jobs.
