Middle East Conflict Could Spike Oil Costs
11 Jul
Summary
- Oil market expected to exceed $100 range by early 2027.
- Escalating Middle East conflict could drive prices higher.
- Stockpile releases have temporarily stabilized oil prices.

The global oil market is poised for significant disruption, with prices expected to surpass the current $80-$100 range by the first quarter of 2027. This forecast comes from Claudio Descalzi, CEO of Italian energy group Eni.
Descalzi indicated that an escalating Middle East conflict is a primary factor that could trigger this price surge. He mentioned that the strategic release of oil stockpiles has been instrumental in maintaining crude prices within the existing range up to this point. Nevertheless, the long-term continuation of such a conflict poses a risk of substantial inflation and a subsequent decrease in overall energy demand.
