NY Tax Receipts Surge Past Projections
18 Jul
Summary
- State tax receipts exceeded budget estimates by $2.4 billion.
- Business taxes showed significant increases over last year.
- All funds spending was lower than projected due to grant delays.

New York State's tax collections for the initial quarter of Fiscal Year 2027 have exceeded expectations, totaling $37.2 billion. This figure is $2.4 billion higher than initially projected by the Division of the Budget and represents a significant increase compared to the prior year. Strong performance in business taxes, including corporate franchise tax and the Pass-Through Entity Tax, contributed substantially to this surplus.
Personal income tax receipts also showed an increase, surpassing financial plan projections. Meanwhile, consumption and use taxes, notably sales tax, demonstrated year-over-year growth. State spending through June was $1.5 billion below projections, mainly due to delays in local assistance grants, even as overall spending increased year-over-year. The state's General Fund concluded June with a substantial balance, bolstered by higher-than-anticipated tax collections.
