Local sales tax collections across New York State showed robust growth in the first quarter of 2026, with a statewide increase of 5.1% compared to the same period last year. This brought total collections to $6.1 billion, a rise of $295 million. The positive trend was widespread, with nine of the state's ten regions, including New York City, reporting higher collections.
New York City alone saw its sales tax collections climb by 6.2%, reaching over $2.8 billion. Outside the city, aggregate collections for counties and cities grew by 3.9%. However, Comptroller Thomas P.
