Nvidia Shifts Focus Amidst AI Spending Fears
21 May
Summary
- Nvidia now separates data center revenue into hyperscalers and ACIE.
- Hyperscalers' AI spending commitments have doubled to over $725 billion.
- ACIE revenue grew 31% quarter-over-quarter, outpacing hyperscalers.

Major tech firms like Meta, Amazon, Google, Microsoft, and Oracle, known as hyperscalers, are making substantial investments in AI infrastructure.
These hyperscalers' financial commitments for AI infrastructure have recently reached over $725 billion, a figure that has doubled in the past year. Investor concerns are growing due to limited returns on this record spending, with some analysts warning of potential negative cash flow.
In response, Nvidia has announced a strategic shift in its financial reporting. Going forward, the company will bifurcate its data center revenue into two distinct segments: hyperscalers and AI Clouds, Industrial, and Enterprise (ACIE).
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang emphasized that this segmentation aims to reflect the company's evolved business scale and provide clearer insights. While hyperscalers previously constituted half of Nvidia's data center revenue, Huang asserted that the ACIE category will ultimately become larger and grow robustly.
Recent performance data supports this outlook, with hyperscaler data center revenue growing 12% quarter-over-quarter, while the ACIE segment surged by 31%, indicating strong diversification and growth potential beyond hyperscale clients.
