Nvidia's CEO, Jensen Huang, announced on Wednesday that the chip giant intends to invest around $150 billion annually in Taiwan, highlighting the island's crucial role in the burgeoning AI industry.
Huang referred to Taiwan as the "epicentre" of the AI revolution, predicting it will remain a global tech manufacturing hub for an extended period. He noted that Nvidia's annual spending in Taiwan has significantly increased from $10-15 billion five years ago to the current $100-150 billion.
The company plans to break ground on a new headquarters in Taiwan this year, with the facility expected to be operational by 2030. This new site will house approximately 4,000 employees.
This expansion aims to strengthen Nvidia's alliances with key Taiwanese manufacturing partners, including TSMC, Foxconn, Wistron, and Quanta Computer, all vital for AI server and infrastructure development.
Huang, who was born in Tainan, Taiwan, expressed enthusiasm for the island's booming tech sector and its pivotal role in the global AI supply chain. This commitment follows AMD's recent announcement of investing over $10 billion in Taiwan's AI sector.
