- The 400 MWh battery project faced significant delays.
- NTPC has initiated re-tendering the project at GRIL's cost.
State-owned NTPC Ltd has terminated a ₹413.37 crore contract with G R Infraprojects Ltd (GRIL) for a 400 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) project at its Mouda Super Thermal Power Station. The termination, effective immediately, stems from GRIL's failure to meet contractual obligations and achieve necessary project progress.
Awarded in March 2026 with a 15-month completion target, the BESS project experienced substantial delays. NTPC issued a contractual notice for corrective action, but GRIL did not comply. Consequently, NTPC has encashed approximately ₹91 crore in securities and is re-tendering the project at GRIL's risk and cost.
This BESS Mouda project is crucial for enhancing grid flexibility and integrating renewable energy sources. NTPC is expediting the re-award process for timely implementation. The company is actively pursuing BESS projects nationwide to support India's growing renewable energy capacity and evolving power system.
