3 Aug
Summary
- New closing auction session starts Monday, August 3, 2026.
- Session applies to F&O stocks, changing prices after 3:15 PM.
- Orders during auction must be within 3% of the reference price.

Beginning Monday, August 3, 2026, the National Stock Exchange (NSE) will implement a new Closing Auction Session (CAS) for stocks with existing futures and options contracts. This change will alter the daily market close for these specific stocks.
Under the revised mechanism, regular trading will conclude at 3:15 PM daily. A 20-minute auction session will then take place between 3:15 PM and 3:35 PM. During this period, the closing price will be determined by matching eligible buy and sell orders according to the exchange's established methodology.
Previously, trading continued until 3:30 PM, with the closing price derived from the volume-weighted average price (VWAP) of trades between 3 PM and 3:30 PM. The new CAS will see intraday positions auto-squared off by 3:05 PM.
From 3:15 PM to 3:20 PM, a reference price will be calculated based on trades executed between 3 PM and 3:15 PM. Orders placed during this time will be held and submitted at 3:20 PM, with acceptance limited to within a 3% range of the reference price. Between 3:20 PM and 3:25 PM, only limit orders can be placed, modified, or cancelled. Orders will be matched and the final closing price determined between 3:30 PM and 3:35 PM.
