10 Apr
Summary
- 55 new 400 kV transformers are being installed to ensure reliable electricity.
- The upgrade aims to benefit over 4.75 lakh consumers before summer.
- The project is part of a larger plan to install 500 transformers by 2027.

Noida's power department has initiated the installation of 55 new 400 kV transformers, a critical move to bolster electricity supply for the summer. This upgrade is set to benefit over 4.75 lakh consumers by mitigating overload-related disruptions, with work expected to conclude within ten days. Areas like Sectors 22, 23, 26, 55, and 63 will see improved service.
This effort is part of a larger district-wide plan to deploy 500 new transformers by 2027, strengthening the power network against rising demand. Superintending Engineer Vivek Kumar Patel highlighted the importance for both residential and industrial sectors, noting the first transformer's placement in densely populated Sector 22, which previously faced tripping issues.
The department is simultaneously conducting maintenance on existing equipment and essential earthing work for enhanced safety and reliability, particularly during adverse weather. This modernization aligns with the SCADA scheme, aimed at optimizing power distribution efficiency and system reliability through advanced monitoring and control.
The installations address Noida's increasing power demand, projected to exceed 3000 MW this year, up from over 2800 MW in 2025. This surge is attributed to escalating industrial, commercial, and residential activities, coupled with heightened use of cooling appliances during heat waves, which contribute significantly to peak consumption.
