Noida Lifts: Registration Lag Sparks Safety Probe
19 Feb
Summary
- Only 11,000 of 80,000 Noida lifts are registered.
- DM demands lift inventory from manufacturers within two days.
- Unregistered lifts and inflated charges to face strict action.

In Noida, compliance with the Uttar Pradesh Lift and Escalator Act, 2024, remains slow, with only 11,000 of an estimated 80,000 lifts registered approximately 18 months after the law took effect. District Magistrate Medha Roopam has issued a directive for all lift manufacturers and AMC firms to provide a comprehensive inventory of their installations within two days. This move aims to identify unregistered lifts across various establishments, including societies, malls, and hospitals. The administration will cross-reference this data with registration records to pinpoint violations and assign responsibility. Notices will be issued to those found non-compliant, with accountability falling on developers or AMC firms. Residents have also raised concerns about escalating annual maintenance and registration charges. The DM warned that firms found arbitrarily increasing fees would face blacklisting, emphasizing that lift registration is a critical public safety measure, not just a formality. Any negligence will lead to strict enforcement.
