NHAI Wins Record Rs 1,202 Crore Arbitration Award
28 Jun
Summary
- NHAI received Rs 1,202 crore in arbitration, its highest ever.
- The award stemmed from a Tumkur-Chitradurga project dispute.
- Other recent NHAI arbitration wins include Rs 820 crore.

The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has achieved its largest-ever arbitration award, receiving Rs 1,202 crore from a private road developer. This sum relates to outstanding premium and revenue share for the Tumkur-Chitradurga six-laning Project in Karnataka.
The arbitration tribunal ruled in favor of NHAI, decisively upholding its contractual claims against concessionaire IRB Chitradurga Tollway. The concessionaire had disputed premium payment defaults and sought an extended concession period.
This significant win follows other recent successes for NHAI. In April 2026, NHAI was awarded Rs 820 crore in counter-claims concerning the Panipat-Jalandhar BOT Project, where the concessionaire's claims of Rs 8,375 crore were rejected.
Additionally, in March 2026, arbitration concerning a Gujarat highway project saw contractor claims of Rs 174.49 crore settled for only Rs 54 Lakhs in favor of NHAI. Another case involving the Bijni-West Bengal Border Project saw NHAI's liability reduced significantly.
