NBN Upgrades Surge: Millions Embrace Full Fibre
13 Feb
Summary
- 287,000 premises upgraded to full fibre in six months.
- 2.99 million premises now connect via fibre to the premises.
- 3 million premises still use older, slower NBN technologies.

NBN Co has reported positive half-year financial and operational results, highlighting a significant trend towards fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) connections. In the six months leading up to December 31, 2025, approximately 287,000 premises upgraded to FTTP, increasing the total number of full fibre connections to 2.99 million. This surge in upgrades is linked to NBN Co's initiative to offer free access to faster NBN plans.
Despite these advancements, a notable 3 million premises continue to rely on older, less efficient connection technologies. This means a significant portion of NBN users are not benefiting from the speed enhancements launched in September 2025. The upgrade to FTTP is free for customers who subscribe to plans offering 500Mbps or faster speeds, a requirement that replaced the previous 100Mbps threshold.
