4 Jan
Summary
- Volunteer fired after reporting 2,000 website errors.
- Further 1,000 mistakes found by sacked volunteer.
- Volunteer dedicated 5,500 unpaid hours over 14 years.

A National Trust volunteer was dismissed after reporting approximately 2,000 spelling and grammatical errors on the charity's website. The 71-year-old, who had dedicated over 5,500 unpaid hours during nearly 14 years of service, expressed frustration over the lack of response to his detailed spreadsheet of errors.
Following his dismissal in January 2025, the volunteer continued to scrutinize the website and has since identified an additional 1,000 mistakes, indicating the problem is escalating. He believes the charity is not prioritizing its online presence, leading to numerous unchecked errors being published.
The volunteer's efforts included cataloging factual inaccuracies and simple misspellings, such as 'yew trees' as 'ewe trees' and 'bridleways' as 'bridal ways'. Despite the charity's statement about "a series of incidents," the volunteer vehemently denies any other issues, asserting his dismissal stemmed solely from his reporting of website errors.
