Summary
- A 16th-century building in Nantwich may become a family home.
- New plans propose converting outbuildings into nine apartments.
- Applications are open for public comments until March 3.

A historic 16th-century Grade I listed building in Nantwich, formerly a restaurant, is the subject of new proposals that could see it become a single-family dwelling. Churche's Mansion, an Elizabethan structure dating back to 1577, would retain its historic fabric under the plans, with only functional changes for domestic occupation anticipated. These proposals aim to ensure a sustainable future for the important heritage asset.
In parallel, separate applications seek to convert modern outbuildings on Hospital Street, located behind Churche's Mansion. These former kitchens and ancillary spaces are earmarked for conversion into a total of nine residential units, comprising five one-bedroom apartments and four studio apartments. The intention is to provide affordable rental accommodation for individuals or couples within Nantwich town centre.
Both sets of applications have been lodged with Cheshire East Council, with the planning portal providing details for public review. The deadline for submitting comments regarding these proposals is March 3. The planning statement emphasizes a sympathetic design approach, respecting the heritage of the listed building while meeting current standards for energy efficiency and sustainability.
