26 May
Summary
- Nearly 50-year-old Mithibai Khau Galli in Vile Parle was demolished.
- Stalls were removed to make way for the upcoming Metro Line 2B station.
- Bombay High Court rejected vendor petitions against demolition.

The nearly 50-year-old Mithibai Khau Galli, a famous culinary spot in Vile Parle, Mumbai, has been demolished. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) removed the last of its 10 stalls last week, clearing the space for the upcoming Metro Line 2B station. This section of Metro Line 2B will connect D N Nagar in Andheri West to Mankhurd.
Vendors received eviction notices on November 14, 2025, but took their case to court. The Bombay High Court ultimately rejected a vendor's petition on April 2, 2026, allowing demolitions to conclude on May 6, 2026. The court cited violations of norms, including proximity to educational institutions, and noted that the stalls obstructed a significant public infrastructure project.
Vendors and patrons express sadness over the loss of the vibrant social and culinary hub. While some vendors are seeking relocation, the demolition marks the end of an era for the area's residents and students who frequented the stalls for popular dishes.
