Maharashtra's Chief Minister has announced that 2027 will be designated the 'Metro Year,' with a target of completing at least 70 km of new Metro corridors by that year. This initiative aims to accelerate urban mobility and infrastructure development across the region.
In a significant stride towards this goal, Alstom has unveiled the first trainset for Mumbai Metro Lines 4 and 4A, delivered in a remarkable 14 months. Designed and manufactured in India, these trains embody the 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' vision, integrating global expertise with local production.
The new Metropolis trainsets are equipped with advanced signalling systems for safe and efficient travel. They are designed for operational speeds of 80 km/h and offer enhanced passenger comfort, including wheelchair accessibility and, uniquely for Alstom in India, dedicated bicycle racks to promote sustainable last-mile connectivity.
Alstom's commitment to Mumbai's metro network extends to other lines, including providing signalling solutions for Lines 2, 7, 7A, and 9. The company also maintains a long-standing partnership for the Aqua Line, demonstrating its integral role in modernizing the city's public transportation system.
