The Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor project has achieved a significant milestone, with 62.16% of its overall physical progress completed. All land acquisition for the 508-km route, which spans Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli, was finalized as of September 21, 2026. This includes 1,389.49 hectares secured for the corridor's development.
Construction efforts are advancing rapidly, with over 366 km of viaduct girders erected and foundation work completed along 459.90 km. Station construction is progressing, with foundation and superstructure work finished at all Gujarat stations and ongoing work in Maharashtra. Tunnel work, including a 7-km undersea section, is underway, with boring machines in operation and sections completed using the New Austrian Tunnelling Method.
The first high-speed trainset for the corridor is currently under construction in Chennai, with BEML tasked with its manufacturing. While specific completion timelines are pending the award of all contract packages and trainset delivery, this project represents the sole sanctioned high-speed rail project under construction in India.
