2 Jun
Summary
- Mt. Gox transferred $739 million in Bitcoin from its cold wallets.
- This is the first on-chain movement since March, sparking distribution speculation.
- Creditors may sell Bitcoin, potentially impacting market prices.

Mt. Gox, once the world's largest Bitcoin exchange, recently moved over $730 million in Bitcoin from its cold storage wallets. This significant on-chain transaction, the first since March, has ignited discussions about impending creditor distributions.
The exchange transferred 10,306 Bitcoin, valued at around $730.8 million, to a new address, with an additional 116.3 Bitcoin moved to its hot wallet. These movements have led to speculation that Mt. Gox is preparing to distribute funds to creditors who have been waiting since the exchange's collapse in 2014.
Mt. Gox still holds an estimated $2.41 billion in Bitcoin. The process for creditor repayment, which began in July 2024 through exchanges like Kraken and Bitstamp, has been slow, with the rehabilitation trustee extending the final repayment deadline to October 31, 2026.
In the broader market, Bitcoin experienced a dip below $70,000 amidst reports of other corporate sellers, such as Strategy and ProCap Financial, liquidating Bitcoin for distributions and share buybacks.
