Montreal Airport Traffic: A Daily Nightmare?

Traffic congestion around Montreal's Trudeau International Airport remains a significant challenge for commuters, with one local describing the access roads as "godawful." The situation has been worsened by the ongoing closure and demolition of the multi-level parking garage to make way for a larger facility. This construction is part of a larger project to reconfigure the road network and increase curbside capacity.

Aéroports de Montréal (ADM) aims to accommodate a projected rise in passenger volume, targeting 28 million by 2028 and up to 35 million by 2035, compared to just over 22 million in 2024. While renovations are underway, ADM advises travelers to arrive three hours before their flights. They also suggest using express drop-off points with shuttle services as an alternative to the main terminal drop-off zone.

The demolition of the old parking garage will result in a new structure with an additional 1,000 spaces, tripling overall car capacity. Future plans also include a new building to connect the terminal with a light-rail station by 2027. These efforts collectively aim to alleviate congestion and improve navigation for the growing number of travelers.
