A significant $1 million grant from South Dakota's Future Fund has been earmarked for a new business park in Mitchell, as announced by Governor Larry Rhoden. This funding is designated to cover the installation of vital public infrastructure, including water, sewer, and roadways, for the 19-acre Mitchell Area Development Corporation (MADC) business and industrial park. The project is strategically located near Interstate 90's Exit 330, positioning it to attract new industrial and commercial enterprises to the area.
MADC CEO Mike Lauritsen expressed optimism, noting that engineering phases are underway, with infrastructure installation projected to begin in fall 2026 or spring 2027 and conclude by fall 2027. The Future Fund grant, coupled with $1 million in local funds and a $1 million USDA loan for land acquisition, is instrumental in bringing this three-year project to fruition. MADC has a 10-year timeline to develop the park or risk returning the grant funds.
