Summary
- Micron plans a $24 billion chip plant in Singapore.
- The facility will boost NAND memory chip output for AI.
- Output is expected to start in the second half of 2028.

Micron Technology is set to invest $24 billion over the next decade in a new chip manufacturing plant in Singapore. This strategic move aims to increase the global supply of NAND memory chips, essential for the rapidly expanding AI and data-driven technology sectors.
The advanced wafer fabrication facility is scheduled to begin production in the latter half of 2028. The cleanroom space will span over 700,000 square feet. This development complements Micron's existing $7 billion advanced packaging plant in Singapore, which is preparing to produce high bandwidth memory (HBM) chips for AI applications starting in 2027.
Industry analysts anticipate that the memory chip shortage could persist until late 2027. Major chip manufacturers, including Micron's rivals Samsung and SK Hynix, are also accelerating their production plans to meet demand. The escalating need for high-performance storage solutions is a direct result of the expansion in AI inference applications and the burgeoning AI agent market.
