MercadoLibre and Assai Partner for Grocery Sales
12 Feb
Summary
- MercadoLibre will sell Assai's products starting late March.
- Partnership focuses on nonperishable foods and hygiene items.
- Assai gains sales growth with lower investment than new stores.

MercadoLibre is set to integrate products from Brazilian food retailer Assai onto its e-commerce platform, with sales commencing in late March. This significant expansion into the supermarket category will leverage MercadoLibre's capabilities for product storage and delivery.
The collaboration between the Uruguay-based e-commerce giant and Assai, a retailer with over 300 Brazilian stores, focuses on nonperishable foods, hygiene, and perfumery items. This move offers Assai a strategic opportunity to boost sales growth while minimizing the investment typically required for new brick-and-mortar establishments.
Initially, the partnership will feature approximately 400 Assai products, distributed from three MercadoLibre fulfillment centers in Sao Paulo. By year's end, these deliveries are expected to reach customers nationwide. The agreement also encompasses Assai utilizing MercadoLibre for its own supply purchases and offering cashback promotions via Mercado Pago for eligible customers.
