Summary
- Government schemes empower Meerut youth and women to build businesses.
- A momos venture grew from Rs 10,000 to a factory with 6,000-7,000 daily output.
- A handicraft business owner secured a Rs 10 lakh loan for expansion.

Meerut is witnessing a significant shift towards entrepreneurship, fueled by government-backed startup and self-employment schemes. Initiatives like the Chief Minister Startup Scheme and the Centre's Stand-Up India programme are instrumental in helping young individuals and women establish and expand thriving businesses.
Rajkumar Thakur exemplifies this trend, transforming a modest Rs 10,000 momos venture into a large-scale operation. Financial aid of Rs 5 lakh under the Chief Minister Startup Scheme enabled him to purchase modern manufacturing equipment, leading to a daily production of 6,000-7,000 momos.
His factory now employs eight women and three men directly, with an additional 50 people benefiting indirectly. This expansion has diversified his product line to 29 varieties and secured shelf space in 30-35 outlets across Meerut.
Similarly, Mamta Garg leveraged the Stand-Up India scheme to secure a Rs 10 lakh loan and Rs 1 lakh in working capital for her handicraft business. Specializing in religious and decorative items, her enterprise now supplies products nationwide and internationally.
Mamta's business, which started about 15-16 years ago, provides employment to around 25 women, many of whom work from home. The venture achieves an annual turnover of approximately Rs 32 lakh, with plans for a new store in Delhi.
These entrepreneurs are not only achieving self-reliance but also becoming significant job creators, contributing to Meerut's evolving identity as a city driven by innovation and local economic development.
