Maruti Suzuki has announced an ambitious investment plan of Rs 77,500 crore, scheduled from FY27 to FY31. This substantial capital infusion is designated for enhancing production capacity, developing new vehicle models, and advancing research and development initiatives. The company anticipates its manufacturing output to climb significantly, reaching an installed capacity of 3.65 million vehicles by FY31.
The recent GST reforms have provided a fresh impetus to India's automotive sector, prompting Maruti Suzuki to re-evaluate its long-term sales and production targets. The passenger vehicle market is projected to grow considerably, with a notable resurgence in demand for small cars. Maruti Suzuki's sales in this segment surged by 35% in Q1 FY27, underscoring a strategic shift in manufacturing capabilities to meet this renewed demand.
Beyond internal combustion engines, Maruti Suzuki is expanding its electric vehicle (EV) portfolio, with the e Vitara showing promise in export markets. The company aims to increase EV component localization as India's EV supply chain matures. Simultaneously, CNG vehicles continue to be a key focus, with sales growing 58% in Q1 FY27, and compressed biogas (CBG) is being explored as a sustainable alternative fuel.
Maruti Suzuki also plans to bolster its presence in the SUV segment while maintaining its leadership in small cars. Export targets are set at 480,000 vehicles for the current year, and the company is actively working on cost-reduction measures to protect its profit margins.
