Maruti Suzuki Shifts Gears to Mid-Segment Dominance
24 Apr
Summary
- Five models now account for over 50% of Maruti Suzuki's sales.
- Production also mirrors sales, with five models exceeding 200,000 units.
- Maruti Suzuki aims to scale production to 4 million units annually.

Maruti Suzuki India has seen a significant structural shift, with five of its mid-segment models now constituting over half of its total sales. In the fiscal year 2026 (FY26), the Fronx, Dzire, Swift, Ertiga, and Baleno collectively accounted for 52.56% of the company's sales, selling 958,279 units. This contrasts with its historical reputation as a small car manufacturer.
A similar trend is evident in production figures. In FY26, Maruti Suzuki achieved its highest-ever output of 2.34 million units. The same five models each surpassed the 200,000-unit production mark, contributing over 1.2 million vehicles, representing more than 51% of the total production.
The company's CEO, Hisashi Takeuchi, expressed pride in achieving such high manufacturing volumes within India. Maruti Suzuki is actively expanding its capacity, aiming to reach an annual production of approximately 4 million units, supported by government policy and its parent company's strategy to develop India as an export hub.
