Maruti Ignis Axed: Production Halted!
16 Apr
Summary
- Maruti Suzuki has ceased Ignis production due to slow sales.
- Dealers stopped taking Ignis bookings over a month ago.
- A new small SUV, a Tata Punch rival, is expected soon.

Maruti Suzuki has ceased production of its Ignis model in India, a decision driven by consistently low sales figures. Production officially ended over a month ago, and dealerships have stopped accepting new bookings, though the model remains listed on the official NEXA website. The Ignis, first launched in early 2017 and updated with a facelift in 2020, offered features like a 7-inch touchscreen, safety systems, and was powered by a 1.2L petrol engine.
Maruti Suzuki is now focusing on a new small SUV, codenamed Y43, which is anticipated to enter the market later this year or early next year. This upcoming vehicle is being developed to compete directly with models such as the Tata Punch and Hyundai Exter. The Y43 is expected to be positioned below the Brezza in Maruti Suzuki's SUV portfolio and will likely be retailed through NEXA dealerships.
