Mahesh Tutorials, a prominent coaching institute, has abruptly suspended operations at over 33 of its centers throughout Maharashtra as of July 10, 2026. This sudden closure has impacted approximately 2,500 students from Classes 10 and 12, along with CBSE and ICSE students, and affected numerous staff members. The decision came after a meeting with branch heads on July 7, 2026, following the completion of admissions and fee collection for the 2026-27 academic year.
The shutdown points to the ongoing financial crisis at MT Educare Ltd, the parent company, which has been under the Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process (CIRP) since December 2022. An audit report for September 2025 indicated severe financial stress with outstanding dues of ₹74.29 crore, casting a shadow on the company's future. Parents are now grappling with uncertainty regarding refunds for fees paid, which ranged from ₹1.8 lakh to ₹5 lakh.
Educational consultants have urged government intervention, calling for an inquiry, alternative arrangements for students, fee audits, pro rata refunds, and pending salary payments. Concerns have been raised about why admissions and fee collections continued while the company was under NCLT process. In response, Arihant Academy has offered to admit affected students without additional tuition fees and provide employment to displaced staff on humanitarian grounds.
